USA: Deepwater Wind Eyes State Beach for Cable Connection

Rhode Island’s State Properties Committee is to examine Deepwater Wind’s request for connecting an offshore wind farm to the grid through Scarborough State Beach, the Providence Journal reports.

The company decided to go with burying the cable at the state beach after a strong opposition emerged over its plans to run the transmission link at the Narragansett Town Beach. “State property seemed the way to go since this project had been approved by the state,” Narragansett Town Council’s President James Callaghan says.

The new plan for the cable connection proposes a subsea route of 18 miles from Block Island to Scarborough. It would be connected to the mainland between two storm water outflow pipes north of the main beach area and the two pavilions there, writes the Providence Journal.
