Alderney and France Talk Tidal Energy

A French delegation visited Alderney to discuss the tidal energy project which could have a total capacity of up to 6GW, channelonline.tv informed.

Among many visitors, Alderney politicians and the directors of Alderney Renewable Energy welcomed the president of the General Conseil de la Manche, Jean-Francois Le Grand and representatives from renewable energy industry.

Francois Piquet, director general of West Normandy Marine Energy, said: “Alderney can’t develop this energy without the harbour of Cherbourg and the development of the industry in Cherbourg is strongly linked with the capacity of Alderney to accept the implementation of tidal energy.

“So we both have interests in developing this partnership.”

Mr. Le Grand also stressed the importance of cooperation between these two countries by saying:

“It is impossible for us to develop that without Alderney; without Alderney States, without Alderney sea, without the Swinge current.“
