UK: LR Energy Releases 'Guidance on Offshore Wind Farm Certification'

Lloyd’s Register Energy’s “Guidance on offshore wind farm certification” has been released to provide assistance to their clients for gaining certification by Lloyd’s Register for an offshore wind farm.

It is based around the international standard for wind energy certification IEC 61400-22 and other standards in the IEC 61400 series and covers design, build and operational requirements. The guidance has been through a thorough peer review process with potential clients in the renewable energy sector.

Peter Davies, Global Technology Leader for Renewable Energy said: “As with other services delivered by Lloyd’s Register in the energy sector, our compliance services in the offshore wind sector are offered across the whole life cycle of the asset. The guidance document provides clarity to our clients on all aspects of wind farm certification and will guide them through this process from initial design through construction and onto operation.”

Ross Wigg, Renewables Leader for Energy, added: “The offshore wind market is of growing importance to Lloyd’s Register given the large capital expenditure that is planned in the coming years. In the UK, for instance, capital expenditure in excess of £50 billion pounds is expected in the next ten years and the global expenditure is estimated at £300 billion pounds. Therefore, it is vital that we offer our clients a well defined portfolio of compliance services and this guideline is a significant step forward in helping us to develop our presence in this market”.
