India: Government to Auction Offshore Wind Farms

The Indian ministry of new and renewable energy has established an inter-ministerial board of secretaries and in that way started the planning process to auction or award offshore wind farms, according to The Times of India news portal.

The board will outline the policy guidelines, approve and oversee implementation of the projects and identify private or public sector partners. It will use the auction model similar to the one applied on oil and gas blocks.

At this point, it is unknown whether these sites would be auctioned or awarded. This government’s move has already motivated Indian companies with its financial incentives, which are meant to reach the Renewable Portfolio Standards.
