Breckland Council to Re-Examine Electricity Substation Decision

According to EDP 24, the High Court ordered the Breckland Council to re-examine the decision to reject planning application for construction of a huge electricity substation, to be located 0.5km south of Little Dunham.

As a result of resolute protests of the villagers, in October 2010 the Breckland councillors supported the voice of the people without listening to the planning officers. As a result Warwick Energy, company engaged in renewable power generation, which is in charge of the project, designed to connect power generated at the Dudgeon Offshore Wind Farm to the National Grid, appealed to the High Court and won the case.

“We now ask the secretaries of state to determine our application without any further delay. Dudgeon is a vital infrastructure project for the UK and any further period of uncertainty may threaten its programme,” project director Mark Petterson pointed out.

It is now up to the Government to decide whether to undertake further measures and perhaps take the case to the Court of Appeal.

“We have now seen the judgment and will need to consider it carefully before deciding on the next steps,“ a Government spokesman stated.

The company could be on its way to a compromise solution since is tabling the option of placing the substation near Necton.
