UK: Clements Marine Supplies Stern Gear Package to South Boats

UK Clements Marine Supplies Stern Gear Package to South Boats

Clements Marine recently supplied the complete stern gear package to the latest project from South Boats Special Projects Ltd, the P&O Maritime crew transfer vessel Chinook.

This multi-purpose crew transfer vessel was designed by Incat Crowther, Australia and built by South Boats at Cowes on the Isle of Wight. The vessel has now successfully completed sea trials and has been delivered to London Array offshore wind farm. Chinook demonstrates P&O Maritime’s commitment to become a leading player in the European offshore renewables industry.

South Boats has built a reputation over many years as the leading builder of wind farm crew transfer vessels.

The vessel was built to Lloyds rules and as such the Clements Marine equipment needed to comply with the strict testing. It is something that Clements Marine has been used to having worked to various marine standards over the last 30 years. 2011 saw them attain company accreditation from Germanischer Lloyd, ABS and RINA.

To achieve the optimum performance from products Clements Marine must first gain an in depth understanding of the use and vessel, taking into account details such as the strains and stresses, hours in used etc it is likely to be used in and situations it will face in its everyday life. For this project two Super Duplex shafts were required as they have proved to be a lot stronger, less corrosive and are particularly suited to the demands wind of farm support vessels. The propeller was a 5 blade, designed and manufactured in Clements Foundry in their offices in Bedfordshire.
