VIDEO: Barge Trials at FORCE Center

A barge anchored to the seabed during the peak of a spring flood tide represents another milestone at Fundy Ocean Research Center for Energy (FORCE).

VIDEO Barge Trials at FORCE Center

This is the first time a barge has been moored to the seabed at the FORCE site. The barge trials took place during peak flows of a spring tide, making the barge appear to be under steam from the powerful wake effects.

This exercise is related to the data cable that was recently laid at the FORCE site (December 2013), and will be connected to a monitoring platform in the near future – supporting the Center’s ongoing work to better understand the environmental conditions at the FORCE site. The cable and monitoring platform will allow continuous, real-time data to be transmitted from sea to shore.

The operation also assists preparations for the deployment of subsea power cables, designed to connect tidal turbines to FORCE’s shore facility.
