ENTSO-E recently announced that some €104billion in new and upgraded power lines is required to meet the EU’s renewables and energy market integration goals. The introduction of increasing amounts of renewable and distributed energy resources, coupled with the need to construct and modernise pan-european transmission capacity, will require a myriad of different policy, technology and market solutions that work together across borders.
