The Instituto de Automática e Informática Industrial (ai2 Institute) from the Polytechnic University of Valencia is leading the initiative.

The technology that they are developing is expected to reduce the size of the offshore platforms, and to generate savings in installation and maintenance costs.

PROMOTioN (PROgress on Meshed HVDC Offshore Transmission Networks) is funded under the EU Horizon2020 research programme from January 2016 until December 2019.

The project consortium which is coordinated by DNV GL includes 34 partners from 11 countries – all major HVDC manufacturers, TSO’s linked to the North Sea, several wind turbine suppliers, offshore wind developers, academics, and consulting companies.
