Ecofys Assesses Borssele Offshore Wind Farm Zone

Ecofys has assessed the offshore wind climate for the Borssele offshore wind farm zone in the Dutch North Sea.

Combining offshore wind measurements with mesoscale model data, Ecofys found all of the analysed trends reasonable for an offshore site and consistent across modelled heights from 10 to 150 m. The calculated mean wind speed at 100 m at the wind farm zone centre was found to be 9.6 ± 0.5 m/s.

The Borssele zone, outside the 12-mile zone off the coast of Zealand, is one out of three areas identified for wind farm development by the Dutch government in September 2014.

As part of the National Energy Agreement which foresees a share of 16% sustainable energy in 2023, the Netherlands aim to increase their offshore wind power capacity from 1,000 to 4,500 MW.
