UK Fishermen Get GBP 130,000 from Offshore Fund

A fund aimed at boosting relations between offshore wind and commercial fishing activities has distributed GBP 130,000 to fishermen.

Seven UK commercial fishing projects were awarded cash by a not-for-profit company West of Morecambe Fisheries, a body set up by Dong, Scottish Power Renewables, SSE and Vattenfall, to improve fishermen safety and to help them find work in offshore renewables market.

Morecambe and Heysham Fishermen’s Association will use the funds to purchase man overboard safety devices for 14 fishermen, while Northern Irish Fish Producers Organisation will train 25 fishermen to offshore safety standards enabling them to work in offshore renewables.

To date, West of Morecambe Fisheries has handed out GBP 125,000 to four schemes.
