New Forest District Council Keeping Eye on Navitus Bay

New Forest District Council decided not to submit a formal objection against Navitus Bay offshore wind farm, according to Daily Echo.

However, the council reserved the right to lobby a planning inquiry due to start in Bournemouth next week.

They raised concern over the onshore underground cable installation which will create a 40 meter corridor across Hampshire.

Another issue concerning the council is increased traffic through Lyndhurst. Namely, the wind farm construction would result in an extra 150 trucks driving through Lyndhurst which is considered one of Hampshire’s biggest bottlenecks.

If Navitus Bay developer does not resolve the issues, council Chiefs will express their objection at the hearing.

The project will comprise up to 194 wind turbine turbines with a total capacity of up to 970 MW.

Located on the bed of the English Channel approximately 17.3 km off Scratchell’s Bay, the wind farm will be able to power 710,000 homes.
