The Federal Maritime and Hydrographic Agency (BSH) of Germany has approved the offshore wind farm “Kaikas” in the North Sea. The wind farm will cover an area of around 65 km2 where 83 wind turbines will be installed in a water depth of 39-41 meters. The new wind farm will be built northwest of the already approved wind farm projects Albatross, Global Tech I and EnBW Hohe See.

It is located approximately 120 km north of Borkum Island and 115 km from the island of Heligoland. The final deadline for commencement of the construction is 31 December 2019.

Since 2001, BSH has approved a total of 30 offshore wind farms in the German exclusive economic zone (EEZ) of the North Sea and the Baltic Sea amounting to 2,164 wind turbines. BSH has received additional 98 applications for wind farm projects equaling to a total of 7,371 wind turbines.
