USA: Cashman-Weeks Wins New Bedford Marine Commerce Terminal Contract

Cashman-Weeks Wins New Bedford Marine Commerce Terminal Contract

Cashman-Weeks was chosen for the development of the New Bedford Marine Commerce Terminal, which, once constructed, will be the first facility in the nation designed to support the construction, assembly, and deployment of offshore wind projects.

Besides Cashman-Weeks, in February, MassCEC received two more bids from Cashman Equipment Corp. of Braintreeincy and Great Lakes Dredge & Dock Company, LLC of Oak Brook, Illinois.

This USD 100 million multi-purpose facility will also be able to handle high-volume bulk and container shipping, as well as large specialty marine cargo. As part of construction, the project includes the dredging and removal of approximately 250,000 cubic yards of contaminated sediment, a significant environmental benefit to the City of New Bedford. The first-of-its kind in North America, the terminal will be engineered to sustain mobile crane and storage loads that rival the highest capacity ports in the world.

“Not only will the terminal create local jobs and help to support a home-grown source of clean energy, it will result in significant environmental benefits for New Bedford Harbor,” said Energy and Environmental Affairs Secretary Rick Sullivan.
