Danish Royal Couple to Take Part in Anholt OWF Inauguration

The Anholt offshore wind farm will be officially opened on Wednesday 4 September 2013. The Danish Royal Couple, Her Majesty the Queen and His Royal Highness the Prince Consort will take part in the inauguration.

The 400-megawatt Anholt offshore wind farm, which, on completion, will be Denmark’s largest, will be officially opened on Wednesday 4 September. The wind farm has been built by DONG Energy, which has a 50 ownership interest, while the other 50 per cent is owned by PensionDanmark (30 per cent) and PKA (20 per cent).

Facts about the Anholt offshore wind farm:

  •  DONG Energy was awarded the concession for the construction of the offshore wind farm in 2010.
  • On New Year’s Eve 2011, at 7pm, the jack-up vessel Svanen (the Swan) drove the first foundation into the seabed, kicking off the construction activities in the Kattegat. All foundations were in place on 27 July 2012.
  • In June 2012, the cable-laying vessels started the work of laying the array cables on the seabed between the transformer platform and the 111 foundations, and on 12 September all cables had been laid.
  • On 5 December, all cables had been installed, and shortly after, on 13 December 2012, all 111 turbine positions in the wind farm had been connected to the Danish power grid.
  • Turbine installation began on 1 September 2012 and the first wind turbine had been installed on 5 September. It was this very same turbine that was able to send first power ashore from the Anholt offshore wind farm on Friday 21 September at 11am.

A total of 34 wind turbines have been installed at the Anholt offshore wind farm to date. Of these, 23 are already generating power.

DONG Energy expects that all 111 wind turbines for the wind farm will have been installed as scheduled by summer and that they will all come into operation during summer 2013.
