USA: G&W Introduces Switchgear for Offshore Wind

G&W Electric Company introduces a new concept in power switchgear for offshore wind applications. The switchgear is self-contained, maintenance free and fully submersible, eliminating the need for special climate and humidity regulated control rooms.

The switchgear is sized to fit through the typical entrance opening of the wind tower and does not require any field filling of gas or special storage requirements. Other features include dead-front, compact construction suitable for outdoor use; manual or remote operation; integral ground position switching; and testing to the latest industry standards.

“G&W has been making submersible switchgear for utility underground vault applications for over 80 years” states Don Juszczyk, Business Development Manager at G&W Electric. “Our switchgear has withstood submersible installations for years in many coastal and tropical environments. It just made sense to bring this technology to offshore wind applications.”

G&W will be exhibiting at Husum WindEnergy 2012, booth 2B03.
