Monitoring Station to Track Wind Speed at Chouet (UK)

Offshore wind power could be on its way to Guernsey after permission was granted to erect a monitoring station at Chouet headland.

The equipment will test the wind speed on the coast and compare it with the airport to see if wind turbines would be viable.

Commerce and Employment agriculture and environment adviser Andrew Casebow believes wind power is more effective than tidal power in the immediate future as the technology is already in place.

‘I think preference is for tidal power but it will be about 10 years realistically before it is viable,’ Mr Casebow said.
