The contract was signed during the WindEnergy Hamburg 2016 exhibition.

Merkur Offshore GmbH reached a Final Investment Decision for the EUR 1.6 billion project in August 2106, with the construction works starting immediately thereafter.

The project will feature 66 Haliade 150-6MW offshore wind turbines installed approximately 45 km north of the island of Borkum, representing the first large-scale commercial deployment of GE’s offshore wind turbine in Europe.

Merkur Offshore GmbH is also the future operator of the wind farm which is expected to generate approximately 1,750 GWh of electricity annually.

The wind farm is expected to be fully commissioned in 2019.
