Europe set a new offshore wind development and investment record in 2010, with over 50 percent market growth. Within the next five years, 11 GW of new offshore capacity will be built in Europe. While Europe has been the hot spot for offshore development, North America is finally embracing the potential of this renewable energy giant. Accelerating the deployment of offshore wind will have tremendous economic and environmental benefits for both Canada and the United States. There are, however, a host of challenges to overcome if we are to fully realize offshore wind energy’s potential.
