European Offshore wind power showed a record growth of 51% in 2010 and is currently seen as the most promising source of renewable energy to achieve political targets. The costs of energy from offshore wind farms however are at present significantly higher than onshore wind. The economic feasibility of offshore wind farms depends on a number of technical issues. A significant contributor to this higher cost is the turbine foundation. In order to satisfy these requirements a number of possible designs and concepts are currently on the market. Thorough evaluation in terms of costs, capacity, installation time, site conditions and turbine requirements are crucial.
