Germany: Efforts to Improve Offshore Wind Investment Conditions Show First Successes

Following the agreement of the transmission system operator TenneT with Japanese company Mitsubishi through participation in the offshore grid development Federal Minister of Economics and Technology, Dr. Philipp Rösler said:

“This is great news. Our efforts to improve conditions for investment in offshore wind show first successes. The offshore development thus takes on full speed.

The agreement in question can enable offshore wind farms to contribute to security of supply. At the same time consumers benefit from the clean offshore wind energy. In the past year we worked hard for a suitable framework for the connection of offshore wind farms. We have improved the predictability of offshore expansion and dismantled investment barriers.

The goal from the beginning was to find a balance between the stakeholders, transmission system operators, offshore wind farms and consumers. This has obviously succeeded. Now we need to attract more investors. I am confident that Tennet will drive these conversations forward.”
