By September 2011, the installed capacity of wind generation reached 1,585 MW in Ireland.

There is ongoing work on researching the potential of other renewable sources.

In November, EirGrid and SONI have launched an all island programme of work entitled “Delivering a Secure Sustainable Electricity System (DS3)” to outline the next steps that are required in order to ensure a secure, efficient and reliable power system which meets the Government targets for electricity from renewable sources by 2020.

Ireland increased number of jobs in wind industry due to the major steps it made in that industry.
