Fishermen’s Energy Gives Up on XEMC, Considers Siemens & Vestas

Fishermen’s Energy is in talks with Siemens and Vestas to supply six turbines for a small offshore wind pilot project in New Jersey, USA.

This means that the American offshore wind developer has abandoned its initial plan to use wind turbines from Chinese manufacturer XEMC. The company stated that it reconsidered its wind turbine choice due to the advanced European technology that can be tuned optimally to wind conditions at a certain site. In addition, Fishermen’s Energy said that it aims at reducing power price by choosing the best turbine.

Even though both Siemens and Vestas have their production facilities in the U.S., Vestas would see its first offshore job in the American wind market, if Fishermen’s Energy decides to put its turbines off New Jersey. Siemens, on the other hand, has already entered the market with Cape Wind project.

Since the offshore wind farm is limited to a maximum of 5 MW per turbine, the company is considering Siemens’ 4 MW and Vestas’ 3.3 MW turbines.
