WSP has been awarded three contracts to provide civil design support to DONG Energy on the Walney Extension, Burbo Bank Extension and Race Bank Wind Farm projects.

Detailed design on the projects is now underway and it is anticipated construction on the first of the projects will begin in the next six months. .

Jon Johnson, senior technical director with WSP said: “With over 20 years’ experience in transmission and distribution in the UK we will bring in-depth knowledge and understanding of onshore Substation design to these high profile offshore wind projects. Working closely with DONG Energy design engineers on a number of Substations enables WSP to optimise and continuously improve the substation designs, assisting DONG Energy in driving down the outturn costs of the substations. Once complete the projects will make a substantial contribution to the renewable energy available to power the UK, helping to meet pressing Government targets.”

Benj Sykes, DONG Energy UK’s Country Manager commented: “DONG Energy is committed to the UK where we have already invested around £5 billion and we are determined to provide new opportunities for the UK supply chain to get involved.”
