Turbine reliability must step up a gear if wind power is to expand in line with ambitious political targets. Despite rapid technical developments for ever larger wind turbines, high failure rates, downtime and a lack of proven track record cause time-consuming and costly repairs. And what is costly and time-consuming onshore is significantly more so offshore.
