Vattenfall was granted a Development Consent Order by the National Planning Inspectorate in February 2013 giving Vattenfall the necessary permission to extend the existing Kentish Flats Offshore Wind Farm. At its maximum installed capacity, Kentish Flats Extension (“KFE”) will be capable of generating another 49.5 MW of additional electricity (the total annual electricity needs of up to 42,194 UK households*). Vattenfall plan to install 15 3.3MW turbines. Although Vattenfal has consent to install up to 17 turbines, this number was reduced as higher rated turbines will be used. The Extension will be located 7.8km from the shore and cover approximately 7.77 sq km.
