Belgian transmission system operator Elia has appointed London Offshore Consultants (France) SARL as the marine warranty surveyor for submarine cables and the Offshore SwitchYard (OSY) platform for the Modular Offshore Grid (MOG) project in the Belgian North Sea.

London Offshore Consultants will be in charge of engineering assessments, document reviews, certification services, vessel and equipment surveys and on-site attendances.

The surveyor will also provide independent third-party technical review and approval of high-value and/or high-risk offshore installation and transportation project operations, from the preparation stages through to the physical execution.

Elia’s MOG, or the so-called electricity plug, includes the Ramboll-designed OSY platform located about 40km off the Zeebrugge coast, to which Belgian offshore wind farms will be connected. Submarine cables will link the platform with a substation in Belgium, where produced wind energy will be fed to the onshore grid.

MOG is scheduled to be taken into use in the third quarter of 2019.
