EnBW, Allianz, AIP Management and Norges Bank Investment Management have inaugurated the 960 MW He Dreiht offshore wind farm in the German North Sea.
Located approximately 85 kilometres northwest of Borkum, He Dreiht is Germany’s largest offshore wind farm by installed capacity. The project was awarded to EnBW in 2017 without state funding and is being financed through long-term power purchase agreements (PPAs).
EnBW holds a 50.1 per cent stake in the project, while the remaining 49.9 per cent is held by a consortium comprising Allianz Global Investors, AIP Management and Norges Bank Investment Management. Around EUR 2.4 billion has been invested in the wind farm.
Construction started in May 2024 with foundation installation. The 64 foundations, manufactured in Germany, are supporting 64 Vestas V236-15.0 MW turbines, the first of which was installed in April 2025, marking the first offshore installation of the turbine model.
Wind turbine installation was completed in August.
He Dreiht is already supplying electricity to the German grid, with full operation expected in the coming months, as commissioning is taking place in stages, according to EnBW.
The offshore wind farm’s electricity is being sold under long-term PPAs to companies including Evonik, Google, PASM, Fraport, Bosch, Salzgitter, SHS Stahl-Holding Saar, Deutsche Bahn and DHL Group.
