Update: Name of Belgian Company Objecting CHEC’s Swansea Bay Contract Revealed

Following yesterday’s news that the contract awarded to China Harbour Engineering Company Ltd (CHEC) for Swansea Bay’s tidal lagoon had been brought into question by a Belgian company, unnamed at the time the news was published, it has been revealed that Jan de Nul is the company that raised concerns over the contract.

Jan de Nul questions whether there was conflict of interest, since CHEC and Atkins, the chief engineer on the tidal project, have been cooperating for a long time, BBC writes. However, Atkins said that the two companies had not collaborated on this project and that the decision on choosing the supplier had been entirely up to Tidal Lagoon Swansea Bay’s.

Also, according to BBC, Belgian government has written to the UK government regarding this matter, after Jan de Nul has expressed its concerns.
