EEW SPC to Build Monopiles for Sandbank, Bladt in Charge of TPs
EEW Special Pipe Constructions GmbH has been awarded a contract for the manufacturing of foundations for the Sandbank offshore wind farm.
In total, 72 monopiles and transition pieces will be produced with a total weight of 78,000 tons. The average diameter of the piles is 6.4 metres and they are meant to be placed at a water depth of 25 to 34 metres. EEW SPC will subcontract Danish company Bladt Industries for the production of transition pieces.
Commencement of production is scheduled for the end of 2014 at EEW SPC in Rostock. The project is very important for the utilization of the plant. The production of the foundations for Sandbank will ensure that EEW SPC will be working to full capacity until midyear 2015.
The wind farm located 90 km of the isle of Sylt is expected to deliver electricity for 500,000 households annually as off 2017.
