Stephane Bourgeois, Head of Regulatory Affairs at the European Wind Energy Association (EWEA), has commented on the MEPs’ adoption today in plenary of the Reul report, which calls on the European Commission to propose a mandatory renewable energy target for 2030.

“By supporting a binding renewable energy target for 2030, the European Parliament has renewed its commitment to renewable energy. The Heads of State meeting tomorrow must now follow the MEPs’ lead and also recognise the potential of renewable energy in driving growth and jobs,” commented Bourgeois .

“Such a target is essential for investor stability so that wind and renewable energy continue to grow, ensuring Europe maintains its industrial leadership, creates more green jobs and increases its energy independence.

It will ensure the EU stays on track to meet its commitment to an 80-95% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions by 2050,” said Bourgeois .
