Germany: Siem Signs First Contract for Renewable Energy Market

Siem Offshore Contractors GmbH (“SOC”), a wholly owned subsidiary of Siem Offshore Inc., announced today that SOC has been awarded the contract for the installation of the inner array grid cables as well as associated services for the Amrumbank West Offshore Wind Farm (“OWF”) project by Amrumbank West GmbH (“AWG”), a subsidiary of E.ON Climate & Renewables Central Europe GmbH (“EC&R-CE”).

The contract award marks the entry into the Offshore Renewable Energy Market for the Siem Offshore group.

The OWF will be situated within the German Bight sector of the North Sea, north of the island of Helgoland and west of the island of Amrum. The OWF will consist out of 80 wind turbine generators, each with a capacity of 3.6 MW and shall be interconnected by an inner array grid of 33kV medium voltage (MVAC) cables with a total length of up to 86km.

SOC will be utilising resources within the Siem Offshore group, whereby the combined capabilities of Siem Offshore’s marine operations and the engineering and installation experience of SOC will form a natural and strong resource base to the benefit of the project.

The project value is approx. USD 60 million, whereby SOC in addition to the submarine cable installation works also will provide associated services including the marine cable route survey and engineering, route clearance operation and post-installation termination and testing works. The actual submarine cable installation works are scheduled for mid 2014.
