Seajacks reached a major milestone on the Meerwind offshore wind farm project yesterday.

Namely, Seajacks Zaratan jack-up vessel installed the final blade on the 80th wind turbine.

The 288MW Meerwind offshore wind farm is located in the Exclusive Economic Zone region of the German North Sea, and consists of 80 Siemens 3.6MW wind turbines.

When fully operational, the eighty turbine project will produce enough energy to power 400,000 households.

Jens Assheuer, CEO of WindMW said: “I would like to thank the project’s investors, staff, suppliers and other stakeholders for their significant commitment and support.  The completion of the project on schedule and at the highest quality standards is a result of the contributions of all parties involved.”

Blair Ainslie, CEO of Seajacks UK, said: “I am very proud of what has been achieved at Meerwind on this pioneering project for Seajacks and WindMW. It should serve as a positive blueprint for future projects and demonstrates how costs can be reduced and delays minimised when an experienced contractor and the right equipment is selected to execute this work.”

The first turbine was erected last year in July by Seajacks Leviathan, another jack-up vessel which was working alongside Seajacks Zaratan on this project.
