Community members and residents are invited to attend the first in a series of informal consultation events, providing the chance to find out more about the proposed Swansea Bay Tidal Lagoon.

The first three informal consultation events will start on Thursday 11 April at Swansea Civic Centre Library. The event will run from 10am to 6pm. A full schedule follows:

• Swansea Civic Centre Library, Thursday 11th April 2013, 10.00am-6.00pm

• Ostreme Centre, Mumbles, Tuesday 16th April & Wednesday 17th April 2013, 12.00pm-5.30pm

• The Princess Royal Theatre, Port Talbot, Thursday 18th April 2013, 10.00am-6.00pm

Alex Herbert, Head of Planning for Tidal Lagoon Power Limited explains: “Detailed plans for the lagoon are now being finalised prior to beginning formal consultation in summer 2013. Our intention, subject to design readiness, is to submit an application for development consent to the Planning Inspectorate in the late autumn of 2013.”

“This is the first chance for the general public to come along to an informal consultation event and find out more about this fantastic project. Consultation with the various regulators and statutory bodies is still on-going and formal consultation is scheduled for June and July this year, prior to our submitting an application to the Planning Inspectorate in October. The Inspectorate’s examination process would then commence before Christmas, with a full public examination held in the first half of 2014. The public will have lots of opportunities to comment on the project but we really hope people will take this first chance to meet the team, find out more, and share their views.”
