The Wind Energy Agency WAB released yesterday a map of the offshore wind projects in the Baltic Sea during the Windforce Baltic Sea conference. The map shows the planned offshore projects and provides detailed information on size, water depth, distance from the coast, the owner and developer of offshore wind farms in the Baltic Sea.

“Offshore wind is a European trend – which is clearly shown by the map,” says Ronny Meyer, CEO of Wind Energy Agency WAB. The map shows that with more than 70 projects, the Baltic Sea has great potential for offshore wind. “The Baltic Sea provides good conditions for offshore wind power. We therefore expect a renaissance of the Baltic market,” Meyer said.

The map lists 76 projects with approximately 15,000 MW. In the German part of the Baltic Sea Baltic 1 offshore wind farm is operational and the Baltic 2 wind farm is being built. Industry experts had recently estimated that by 2023 there will be at least 2,100 megawatts of offshore wind power installed in the German Baltic Sea and connected to the grid.

The offshore wind power market will also be a subject at the WAB conference Wind Force Baltic Sea which will take place on 20-21 February in Stockholm.
