Deutsche Windtechnik has secured a service and maintenance contract for all twelve turbines at Germany’s 60 MW alpha ventus offshore wind farm, with work set to begin in January 2027.
The contract was awarded by Ocean Breeze Energy, which is taking over the wind farm from its previous owners EWE, RWE and Vattenfall. Deutsche Windtechnik will initially handle turbine maintenance, troubleshooting and related technical support. From September 2027, the scope will expand to include remote monitoring, offshore control centre services, grid management and 24/7 alarm handling.
The contract covers all six Senvion 5M and six AREVA Multibrid M5000 turbines at alpha ventus, which is located approximately 45 kilometres north of Borkum in the German North Sea. Commissioned in 2010, the 60 MW project was Germany’s first offshore wind farm.
Deutsche Windtechnik previously provided maintenance services at alpha ventus, looking after the six Senvion turbines from 2017 and taking on the six AREVA Multibrid turbines in early 2020. Those contracts ended in December 2024.
Ocean Breeze Energy announced in October 2026 that it would acquire alpha ventus and continue operating the wind farm beyond its originally planned 20-year lifespan. The decision reversed plans announced in 2025 to decommission the project, with the previous owners having considered its role as a test and demonstration site fulfilled.
Ocean Breeze Energy also owns and operates the neighbouring 400 MW BARD Offshore 1 wind farm. The company is wholly owned by funds managed by Macquarie Asset Management.
Deutsche Windtechnik said the new contract would further expand its offshore service operations from Borkum, where it also provides maintenance services for Riffgat and Trianel Windpark Borkum I offshore wind farms.
