Net Zero Atlantic has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with The Carbon Trust, France Energies Marines and Stiftung OFFSHORE-WINDENERGIE to support offshore wind readiness in Atlantic Canada.
The agreement, signed during WindEnergy Hamburg 2026, will establish a framework for knowledge exchange, international partnerships and sharing lessons from established offshore wind markets with Atlantic Canada’s emerging sector.
The four organisations will explore cooperation in areas including offshore wind resource assessment, environmental and permitting issues, stakeholder engagement, transmission and interconnection, cabling, energy-system modelling, interregional planning and marine surveys. Capacity building and broader knowledge exchange are also covered by the MoU.
According to the organisations, The Carbon Trust brings expertise in offshore wind market development, policy, commercial readiness and procurement. France Energies Marines contributes offshore wind research, technical analysis, innovation and industry tools, while Stiftung OFFSHORE-WINDENERGIE brings experience in industry development, supply chains and stakeholder coordination. Net Zero Atlantic contributes regional expertise and applied research and coordinates offshore wind readiness activities in Atlantic Canada.
The partnership comes as Atlantic Canada works on the information, policy, infrastructure and regulatory requirements that could support future offshore wind development, according to a press release from The Carbon Trust, which cited initiatives including Wind West and the Atlantic Canada Offshore Wind Readiness Program, which are examining areas such as transmission planning, regulatory pathways and investment considerations.
The organisations said the collaboration will provide two-way knowledge exchange between established European offshore wind markets and Atlantic Canada as the region continues its readiness work.
