German company LightPartner has secured a contract to supply lighting systems for four 2 GW offshore converter platforms being developed for offshore grid connections in the German North Sea.
The scope covers lighting systems for the BalWin1, BalWin2, BalWin3, and LanWin2 platforms, scheduled for commissioning between 2030 and 2032.
“This is one of the largest orders we have received in our company’s history and another major success in the important future market of offshore wind. We are delighted that our luminaires will contribute to the success of these projects and to the energy transition in Germany and Europe”, said Georg Blum, CEO of LightPartner.
The four platforms are part of Germany’s expansion of offshore transmission infrastructure and will transmit electricity generated by offshore wind farms to the mainland grid.
The BalWin1 and BalWin2 grid connections, expected to go into operation in 2030 and 2031, are being developed by the German transmission system operator (TSO) Amprion, which awarded a contract for the platforms to Siemens Energy and Dragados Offshore in 2023.
German company Meyer Werft, responsible for manufacturing steel components for the platforms, cut the first steel for BalWin1 and BalWin2 in June 2025.
The platforms for BalWin3 and LanWin2, part of TenneT’s 2 GW offshore grid connection programme, are also being built by Siemens Energy and Dragados Offshore. According to 2025 news about the projects, LanWin2 is scheduled to be commissioned in 2030, followed by BalWin3 in 2031.
