Energy and marine consultancy ABL has been awarded a contract to provide marine warranty survey and marine assurance services for the construction of the 976.5 MW Gennaker offshore wind farm in the German Baltic Sea, owned and developed by Skyborn Renewables.
Located approximately 15 kilometres north of the Fischland-Darß-Zingst peninsula, Gennaker will comprise 63 Siemens Gamesa wind turbines with a maximum capacity of 15.5 MW each. The project is scheduled to begin offshore construction in 2027 and is planned to be fully commissioned in 2028.
ABL’s scope will cover the marine transportation and installation phase, including technical review and approval of project documentation, marine suitability and HSE inspections of the proposed fleet, and on-site attendance during warranted marine operations.
The company said the project’s location within Germany’s 12-nautical-mile zone, combined with large-capacity turbines and complex offshore lifting and installation activities, creates additional marine and navigational challenges.
ABL’s German operations in Hamburg will lead the work, supported by the company’s regional renewables team and experience in the Baltic Sea.
The project’s foundation installation contract was awarded to Seaway7, which will transport and install 63 monopiles and transition pieces. EEW Special Pipe Construction is manufacturing the monopiles, while Dajin Heavy Industry is producing the transition pieces. Offshore foundation installation is scheduled to start in 2027.
The Gennaker grid connection is being developed by German transmission system operator 50Hertz through the OST-6-1 system. Two offshore substations, OSS Zingst and OSS Darß, are being delivered by the HSI Joint Venture of HSM Offshore Energy, Smulders, and Iv. Their topsides and jackets have now been loaded out, with Allseas responsible for transportation and installation.
