The first wind turbines have been installed at the 128 MW Vinh Long nearshore wind farm site in Vietnam, according to Chinese supplier Envision Energy, for which this marks the first turbine installation on an international offshore wind project.

The nearshore wind farm, developed by REE Group, will comprise 16 EN-226/8.X MW turbines across the 48 MW V1-3 Phase II and 80 MW V1-5&6 Phase II, located off Vinh Long Province.

According to Envision, the first turbine was installed in less than seven days, while the second installation took less than five days. The company said the installation pace was maintained despite heavy rainfall and strong winds during Vietnam’s current weather season.

Envision said the EN-226 design, which it describes as lighter and maintenance-friendly, was adapted to the nearshore conditions, while the project team worked under tight timelines and with limited installation resources.

The first turbine installation follows the start of equipment deliveries in June, when Envision sent the first four sets of EN-226/8.X MW turbines to Vietnam.

With this technology, the 128 MW project is expected to feature the largest single-turbine capacity among nearshore wind projects in Vietnam and Southeast Asia, according to Envision.
