Heerema Marine Contractors, using its semi-submersible crane vessel (SSCV) Sleipnir , has completed the installation of the first of the two Hornsea 3 offshore converter stations.
As reported recently, Sleipnir started installing the jacket foundation for the Offshore Converter Station 1 (OCS1) at Ørsted’s Hornsea 3 project site offshore the UK on 19 March.
According to a social media post from Heerema Marine Contractors on 31 March, both the jacket and the topside are now in place, with the project’s second substation (OCS2) to be installed later this year.
Heerema Fabrication Group, which was contracted in 2022 by Aibel to design and fabricate jackets for the two Hornsea 3 OCS platforms, said on 24 March that it had completed the foundation for the first offshore substation, and that the substructure was towed to SSCV Sleipnir on 18 March.
The topside for the first substation, built by Aibel and Hitachi Energy, arrived in Norway from Thailand in June 2025.
Heerema Fabrication Group is currently working on the OCS2 jacket foundation, which is scheduled to be completed in August 2026. The topside for OCS2 arrived in Norway in October last year.
Hornsea 3, located approximately 160 kilometres off the Yorkshire coast, is now gearing up for the installation of wind turbine foundations, which is scheduled to start in April.
The 2.9 GW offshore wind farm, which will feature 197 Siemens Gamesa’s 14 MW turbines, is expected to be operational in 2027.
