Enefit Green has signed an agreement with Sumitomo Corporation to sell a 50 per cent stake in Liivi Offshore OÜ, the project company behind the Liivi Bay offshore wind farm, planned to be built in Estonia.
Under the agreement, obtaining approval from the Estonian Consumer Protection and Technical Regulatory Authority (CPTRA) is a precondition for closing the transaction, according to Enefit Green.
“The start of this strategic partnership demonstrates a clear commitment to building the first offshore wind farm in the Gulf of Riga in the Baltic Sea, marking a significant step in advancing offshore wind energy development in the Baltic countries” , Enefit Green said in a press release on 19 February.
Enefit Green has been developing the Liivi Bay offshore wind farm after taking over the project from its parent company Eesti Energia in 2023.
The offshore wind farm, proposed to be built at a site located 11 kilometres from Kihnu Island and 16 kilometres from Häädemeeste, is planned to consist of up to 84 turbines with a total capacity of 1 GW, with an annual electricity production of up to 4 TWh.
Enefit Green expects to enter the project in the upcoming auction to be held by the Estonian government and to complete the construction of the wind farm in 2032.
The CPTRA initiated the proceedings for the superficies licence and environmental impact assessment (EIA) for the construction of the Liivi Bay offshore wind project in September last year.
The applications that Eesti Energia, the initial project owner and developer, submitted to the government involve two projects comprising a total of 140 wind turbines with a nominal capacity of 20 MW per unit.
In the permitting process that started last year, the permitting procedures for Eesti Energia’s applications from 2021 were merged which, according to the authority, brings the potential capacity of the merged Liivi Bay offshore wind project to up to 2,010 MW.
