Nexans has secured the contract for the LanWin2 offshore grid connection in Germany, valued at EUR 1 billion, under the framework agreement TenneT awarded the French subsea cable supplier in May 2023.

The project involves the engineering, procurement, construction, and installation (EPCI) of 250 kilometres of 525 kV high-voltage direct current, cross-linked polyethylene (HVDC XLPE) onshore and offshore export cable systems that will transmit 2 GW of offshore wind energy from the German North Sea to the mainland.

The commissioning of LanWin2, part of TenneT’s 2 GW offshore grid connection development programme in the German North Sea, is expected in 2030.

In May 2023, TenneT awarded EUR 5.5 billion worth of framework agreements to NKT, Nexans, and a consortium of Jan De Nul, LS Cable, and Denys for 525 kV HVDC cable systems for ten offshore wind projects in the Netherlands and Germany.
