The joint venture between Ørsted and PGE has awarded Fred. Olsen Windcarrier a contract for the installation of wind turbines at the Baltica 2 offshore wind farm in Poland.

“Installation of wind turbines for Baltica 2 has been divided into two stages, and a contractor for each stage is selected in a separate tender procedure. The first batch of turbines that PGE and Ørsted contracted in April 2023 will be installed by Fred. Olsen Windcarrier,” the Baltica 2 partners said in a press release on 3 January.

In April 2023, the joint venture selected Siemens Gamesa to supply 107 of its 14 MW wind turbines. Under the contract with Fred. Olsen Windcarrier, the Norwegian offshore construction specialist will install 48 turbines using one of its special purpose-built jack-up installation vessels.

The vessel will sail to the designated loadout quay and subsequently to the Baltica 2 offshore wind site during spring 2027, Fred. Olsen Windcarrier said on 3 January.

“Considering the challenges facing the offshore wind industry globally, we are particularly proud that we are consistently and according to plan signing further agreements with experienced market players, which bring us closer to the implementation of Baltica 2 – a pioneering project in terms of scale of the offshore wind energy market in Poland,” said Agata Staniewska-Bolesta , Managing Director of Ørsted Offshore Poland.

The Baltica 2 partners also signed contracts for four 375 MW offshore substations that will be delivered by Semco Maritime and PTSC Mechanical & Construction (PTSC M&C). Navantia-Windar will be supplying 77 monopile foundations for the project’s turbines and substations, and Steelwind Nordenham will deliver the remaining 34 wind turbine foundations for Baltica 2.

PGE and Ørsted plan to commission Baltica 2 by the end of 2027.
