White Cross Floater Blazes Path Forward

The developer behind the White Cross floating offshore wind project has submitted the planning documents for the 100 MW site off the coast of Devon and Cornwall.

The White Cross project is being developed by Offshore Wind Ltd (OWL), a joint venture between Cobra and Flotation Energy.

The developer has submitted the Section 36 and Marine Licence applications for the project’s offshore consent to the Marine Management Organisation (MMO).

The project will have a capacity of up to 100 MW and will be a development under The Crown Estate’s (TCE) Test and Demonstration leasing opportunity.

Test and demonstration projects play an important role in supporting the delivery of innovative energy technologies and building a regional and UK supply chain, and this project, amongst others, will help to support new jobs, skills, and economic growth, Flotation Energy said.

Once completed, the project will produce enough electricity to power over 135,000 households.

The joint venture has been developing the White Cross site since 2020 and secured the development rights from Crown Estate in July 2021.
