China-based Orient Cable has started the first subsea cable laying work at the Binh Dai offshore wind project in Vietnam.
The scope of work includes pre-survey and post-survey, pre-lay grapnel run (PLGR), cable burial to a depth of 2.5 metres to 1.5 metres, inspection, and testing of the cable post burial.
So far, the civil work and land cable portion have been completed, the company informed.
“As the engineering, procurement, and construction contractor of this project for subsea cable package, we are honored to contribute ourselves to the first Vietnam offshore wind farm development”, said Yang Fan , project manager of the subsea cable project.
“After a few months’ preparations for cable production, transportation, CLV mobilization and installation at site, we are now already to start the construction”.
Orient Cable secured the EPCI contract for the wind farm in September 2020 for providing and installing 185 kilometres of 35 kV subsea cable system.
The company delivered the first shipment of cables in March this year.
Binh Dai is located seven kilometres offshore and due to the proximity to the mainland it will use 35kV submarine cable to connect the offshore turbines to the onshore substation directly.
Mekong Wind Power Joint Stock Company is developing the 310 MW wind farm which will comprise 74 turbines, Siemens Gamesa 4.5 MW and Goldwind 3.3 MW units, to be installed in phases.
The consortium of PowerChina Huadong Engineering Corporation Limited and PowerChina International Group Limited is the EPC contractor for the project.
