Huisman has signed a contract with PaxOcean Engineering for the delivery of a 1,600mt leg encircling crane for Penta-Ocean Construction ‘s new self-elevating platform (SEP) .

The crane, to be built at Huisman’s wholly-owned production facility in Xiamen, China, is expected to enable the SEP for installing 12MW turbines.

PaxOcean will build the SEP in Batam, Indonesia, with delivery scheduled for 2022.

The platform is of a GustoMSC design, equipped with four tubular legs and four azimuth thrusters. It will be fitted with a clear deck area of some 3,800sqm, with accommodation designed for 80 persons.

The leg encircling crane will be certified by the Japanese certification society ClassNK. Key systems will consist of locally made components to increase ease of maintenance, Huisman said.

“This SEP project brings us a great opportunity to cooperate with Huisman to provide a 1,600mt Leg Encircling Crane for the SEP , ” Bian Lixin , Managing Director of Newbuilding and Conversion PaxOcean.

“ We believe Huisman will successfully deliver the crane with their expertise and extensive experiences. We firmly believe that PaxOcean and Huisman will have more opportunities for cooperation in the future and look forward to a long and fruitful relationship between our two businesses.”

Back in November 2019, Penta-Ocean, Kajima Corporation, and Yorigami Maritime Construction agreed to jointly construct and operate the platform.

PaxOcean Group revealed earlier this month that it had signed a contract to build the SEP for Japan’s Penta-Ocean.
