The first transition piece will be installed on the Horns Rev 3 wind farm mid-July, Vattenfall, the owner and developer of the 406.7MW project in the Danish North Sea, said.

The remaining 48 transition pieces are scheduled to be installed by September, Vattenfall said. The units are manufactured by Bladt Industries in Denmark and by Smulders in Belgium.

SAL Heavy Lift is in charge of delivering the transition pieces to the Port of Esbjerg.

The transition pieces will support 49 MHI Vestas 8.3MW wind turbines scheduled for commissioning in 2020.

Horns Rev 3 wind farm is being developed north-west of Blåvands Huk on the Danish west coast.
