Vattenfall has strengthened the senior management team of its wind business with the appointment of one of the industry’s leading strategists. On 1 October, Michael Simmelsgaard will be new Vice President of Strategic Projects as well as a member of the Management Team at Business Area Wind.

He has a strong track record in the energy industry and most recently he was Dong’s Vice President for its Wind Operations business.

Michael Simmelsgaard said: “I am very excited to join Vattenfall and its great team of engaged and competent people and being part of transforming the Vattenfall Group to an even more renewable agenda.”

Gunnar Groebler, Head of Business Area Wind , said: “The purpose for bringing Michael on board is to accelerate our development in key strategic areas and increase our senior competence in wind, which is a crucial factor for Vattenfall going forward. Together with the Management Team and all our employees, Michael will play an essential role in realizing our ambitious plans in the Wind area.”

Last year Vattenfall’s President and CEO, Magnus Hall, reorganized the Swedish owned utility and created a new division – Business Area Wind – to deliver on the energy firm’s strategic priority to grow its wind business across the UK, Denmark, Germany, the Netherlands and Sweden.
