RCG Appoints New Director

The Renewables Consulting Group (RCG) has named Gareth Lewis as a Director and member of the global management committee, based from the company’s London headquarters.

Lewis is a qualified marine biologist, underwater technologist, commercial diver and yachtmaster with 24 years’ experience of renewable energy projects, including 14 years at senior management level and 13 years in the offshore renewable energy sector. His most recent role was representing SSE as Head of Offshore Development in the Forewind Consortium, where he recently enjoyed the success of securing the largest offshore wind farm consent in the world at 2.4 GW for the Dogger Bank Creyke Beck A&B offshore wind farms. A decision on another equally sized (2.4GW) project, Dogger Bank Teesside, is expected in August 2015.

Other past positions include Project Director for Seagreen Wind Energy Limited a joint venture between SSE and Fluor for the Firth of Forth projects, and Project Director for Brims Tidal Array Ltd – a joint venture between SSE and Open Hydro for the Tidal array project in the Pentland Firth Orkney Islands.

Prior to SSE, Mr. Lewis was Head of Technical Services for EDF Energy Renewables, where notable successes include being part of the team that secured consent for the Teesside Offshore Wind Farm, and before that, Head of Offshore Development for AMEC where he led the development of the Lynn Offshore Wind Project. He also led teams to secure the Aberdeen Bay, Docking Shoal and Race Bank agreement for leases with the Crown Estate.

“I’m tremendously pleased to be joining RCG as a director and co-regional head for EMEA. We have a very strong vision, and want to build a new kind of consulting company for the global renewables sector. Our focus is on setting new standards of excellence, and building lasting relationships with our clients,” said Lewis.
